To anyone else who is trying to listen to another group’s music: “Not Today”!
Made up of three brothers, Brandon, Brett, and Bryan, Holiday State is a band that is truly making headlines. They have already reached over 100K Streams for their music on Spotify alone, and have even been featured on CMT.
We had the absolute honor of interviewing the group of all things music journey together, their new single, and who each of them would love to work with!
Q: Did you guys start singing together when you were growing up?
HS: “We were always singing and dancing, but we were just being kids and having fun, it was nothing serious. We started singing together around our teen years. We formed a band together and practiced out of our garage. Bryan played the guitar he got for Christmas when he was about 10 years old. Brett played an old, junky drum set we had bought off our neighbors a few years back and had no idea what he was doing, but was determined to learn. Brandon sang lead vocals, while a couple of buddies played rhythm guitar, keys, and bass. That was really the first time we started taking music seriously.”
Q: Tell us about your brand new single “Not Today”.
HS: “Not Today” was written by Brandon and Andria Farrell back in October 2020. It was produced by Tyler Cain and mixed/mastered by Christian Hale. The song intends on making the listener forget about their troubles and worries and just get out there with their friends and let loose. Put all your cares aside for the time being, enjoy your youth and have fun. Life is too short not to.”
Q: How did you guys come up with the name, “Holiday State”?
HS: “It was going to be the name of a clothing line we wanted to start but we ended up putting that on hold to focus on music more. Holiday State kind of came to us out of nowhere. We love the meaning behind it and it’s how we like to live our lives. When the fans listen to our music or come out to our show, for that moment, we want to put them in a holiday state of mind. This means no school, no work, no worries, just enjoying the company of your favorite people and having the time of your lives together. And I guess you could say we’re on our way to starting that clothing line. Hit us up for merch!”
Q: If you guys could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Brandon: “Justin Timberlake. He’s the definition of an entertainer. I’ve seen him live at various points throughout his career and I’m convinced that dude can do it all. Need I say more?”
Brett: “Bruno Mars. Not many artists can do what he does. His vocal range is incredible, his dancing and live show just make you want to move! His swag and confidence are like no other and he isn’t afraid to be himself. His fusion of funky throwback music with his added twist is something no one else can accomplish. He’s also from Hawaii, like our family, so he gets extra points for that.”
Bryan: “Sam Hunt. He’s a pioneer. What he brought to country music was so unique. He developed his own sound and style and has such a cool tone. I tried talking in one of our songs like he does and yeah, I’m not that cool.”
Q: What has been your favorite moment of your career so far?
HS: “It has to be either our first live television performance or our first national tour. They both were milestones for us. The tour was incredible cause we got to travel the country in an RV and do what we love. Seeing new places and meeting so many people – tour is something you can’t describe or even understand unless you’ve done it. It’s hard work, many sleepless nights, and it will test your stamina for sure, but we loved it! So many laughs and so many memories that will be with us for the rest of our lives. But ask again at the end of October, because by then we’ll have played our first major festival (Blended Fest San Diego) and we know that’ll be another favorite career moment to add to the list.”
Q: What has been your reaction to receiving over 100K on your music so far?
HS: “Every milestone feels great! And we soak up the moment. When you first start out, you never really think that many people will hear your music. You work hard, you do everything you can to get it heard and it really is such a blessing. It makes you want to keep going and reassures you that you’re on the right path.”
Q: What are your guys’ biggest goals for your music career?
HS: “Our biggest goals are to inspire people. We want to see the world and make great music. Awards don’t mean much to us, doing what we love means so much more. And to be able to make a living doing it, that’s the dream right there. Performing is the greatest rush and we would love to continue to do it for years to come. We’d also love to work with other amazing artists, producers and songwriters who have inspired and influenced us. To see people enjoying our music, singing the words to our songs and reaching out to us is what it’s all about.”
Q: Where can we follow your amazing journey?
HS: “You can follow us on our socials! Please reach out and say hello. We enjoy meeting new people and talking with fans www.holidaystate.com“
