Actress Sydney Mikayla Talks Emmy Nomination, Going To College, And Diversity

This young actress is already on the top of the acting industry!

Sydney Mikayla’s passion for performance has led her to be a part of many versatile roles! A true triple threat! Sydney’s career started in musical theater but would eventually lead her to the big screen.

New Scene recently caught up with Sidney, where we talked about movies, tv shows , goals and much more exciting new things that many people may not know about the actress.

Q: What made you pursue a career in acting and was it always something you wanted to do?

S: “Well my mom always said I was a ham when I was younger.  I just loved to perform.  I started taking dance when I as about 3 and then I began training at the Amazing Grace Conservatory.  After I booked the Gabby Douglas Story, I knew this is what I wanted to continue doing.”

Q: You have played a great deal of different roles from soap operas, to biopics, animated series, etc. What has been your most difficult role? And how did it help you grow as an actress?

S: “Being on General Hospital has certainly been one of the most rewarding, but it was a challenge adapting to the quick pace of shooting a soap. Being surrounded by so many soap greats has been instrumental in helping to make me better in this genre and just better all-around.”

Q: You recently received your first Emmy Nomination, can you explain what that moment was like when you first received the news?

S: “Well I made sure to disconnect from my phone and social media until my mom was able to record me finding out about the nominations.  I just wanted to capture that moment.  Thankfully I actually got nominated, otherwise it probably would not have been a very happy video.  I was ecstatic and grateful.”

Q: What inspires you as an actress?

S: “I believe the industry is evolving and becoming more open to diversity and that is inspiring.  I love acting and I hope that I am able to not only continue as an actress but someday produce works that allow actors to represent a variety of authentic work.  My mom is also an actress, so I guess it was just in my blood.”

Q: Are you working on any current projects that we should be on the lookout for?

S: “Well I am still loving my role at GH and I think I’ve got some interesting storylines on the horizon there, so definitely stay tuned! I’m also recurring as Maya on Craig of the Creek on the Cartoon Network, so be sure and check it out!”

Q: What are your career goals and what have you been doing to achieve them?

S: “I am preparing to enter college in a few short weeks so I am really excited about that adventure.  I’m looking forward to meeting new people and having new experiences while I’m navigating my acting gigs and hopefully continuing to train.”

Q: What are some hobbies you like to do that many people may not know about?

S: “Well I love hanging out with my dog, Champ; he’s a total Diva.  He’s the little brother I never had, although is convinced that he is the boss.  I also love learning about makeup and when I have the time I like to experiment in the kitchen.”
