One of our favorite singers!
After becoming a fan-favorite on American Idol, Erin Kirby has over 1 Million streams for her amazing music, and she’s only just getting started!
We had the honor of talking with Erin on all things music, animals, and favorite moments so far:
Q: How would you describe your music?
E: “I like to say my music is almost like the female version of Lewis Capaldi or James Arthur. My songs have modern production with meaningful and relatable lyrics.”
Q: Tell us about your new single “Waste More Time”.
E: “Waste More Time” was written over facetime with a group in LA called Sleeping Lion. This song was written by a guy that led me on through the summer. Once the summer came to a close, he told me he wanted me to wait for him to finish his first year of college before we were to date. I did not take him up on that offer but instead wrote a song about our situation. I hope that this song helps others move on and I hope it helps them realize that they deserve more.”
Q: Describe your creative process when songwriting.
E: “When writing I always start with chords on the guitar or piano. As time goes on I work on the melody and lyrics.”
Q: What made you decide to pursue your music career?
E: “I have always enjoyed singing and doing anything with music. I competed in talent in my third pageant and knew that I wanted to sing forever. I continued with pageants for a little bit of time and moved up to a national level of competing. I realized that I could do music full time if I jumped in and worked hard. I quit pageants shortly after that and began to work on music career full time.”
Q: What musician do you admire most and why?
E: “I admire Ed Sheeran the most because he is extremely talented and his love for music is very strong. He enjoys doing what he does and you can hear it in his work. He does not only write incredible songs for himself but for other artists.”
Q: What is one message that you would like to give to your fans?
E: “It may sound cheesy but do not give up on your dreams. If it gets difficult, keep pushing and do not let anyone stop you from doing what you love.”
Q: What has been your favorite moment of your career so far?
E: “I have loved every bit of my career and it is extremely difficult to pick a favorite. I always love singing the National Anthem and I have been lucky enough to sing at places like Truist Park and the Mercedes Benz Stadium.”
Q: How did your American Idol career change your life?
E: “I made lifelong friends on American Idol. We support one another, hang out with each other, and I have even written some songs with the other contestants”
Q: If you could change one thing about this music industry, what would it be and why?
E: I think I would change the social media aspect of the industry. Post pandemic everything is focused on social media and putting content out there. I would much rather be able to perform live more often, connect with fans, and get my music out the way.”
Q: What are your biggest goals for your music career? Maybe a tour?
E: “I would love to go on tour! I am extremely close with my bandmates and our favorite thing to do is perform. A goal I have always had is to one day own my own animal shelter or rescue farm. Giving back is extremely important to me and animals have a huge piece of my heart.
Q: Where can we follow your amazing journey?
E: “You can follow my journey on any social media platform @erinkirbymusic or you can text me for updates at 470-619-3936.”
