“Gossip Girl”s Iván Carlo Talks Hairspray, Favorite Actors, And Career Goals

One of our favorite actors on the rise!

After a very successful start in the musical theatre field, Ivan Carlo is branching out to the acting zone; in what so happens to be the biggest shows. After appearing on Oxygen’s “One Deadly Mistake”, he’s about to make his HBO debut on our favorite TV reboot “Gossip Girl”.

We had the honor of talking with Ivan on all things career, future goals, and his love of musical theatre:

Q: What inspired you to start your acting career in the industry?

I: “My source of inspiration to start acting was sparked by my high school’s production of Hairspray (cheesy… I know). I was so moved by the music and the talent and I knew by intermission that I needed to audition for the next show.“

Q: How was your experience working on the new Gossip Girl reboot?

I: “Working on the reboot was such a blast. I remember feeling so nervous walking in and meeting everyone- but their energy was so inviting and warm that I couldn’t help but relax. Up until then I hadn’t worked on such a large production and it was so amazing walking into the space and rehearsing  and playing.”

Q: What is your favorite aspect about working in musical theatre?

I: “Musical theatre is the most exhilarating thing I’ve ever done. I feel brave and like I can accomplish anything after a really good show. When I’m working on a musical I feel even more challenged to live healthily and holistically. Also, I have to give a shout-out to the DC Theatre industry. During the pandemic, the DC community really banded together to help support creatives and their art. Much love. “

Q: What is your favorite movie of all time?

I: “Oof- that’s a tough one. The hopeless romantic in me wants to say “500 days of summer”. I love art that plays with the concept of time. Oh and the Harry Potter series!”

Q: What would be your dream role?

I: ” I wanna do it all. I want to play the heartthrob. The stoner. The antihero you hate to love and love to hate. I’m excited to grow into new roles and allow life experiences to help make me better at what I do.”

Q: If you could star in a movie with any actor, who would it and why?

L: ” The list is endless. Leo. Duh Leo. Benicio del Toro. Anthony Ramos. Viola Davis. Honestly, I want to work with as many talented individuals as I can- in and out of the entertainment industry.”

Q: What has been the highlight of your career so far?

L: “Well I was very happy to be asked to do this interview! Working on the reboot was such a surreal experience.   Honestly though being at a point where I am reading for interesting and vibrant characters on projects that I’ve watched or read or fall in love with after doing research has filled my heart with gratitude and inspiration.”
