This Canadian singer is taking the music scene by storm!
The 22-year-old singer is already an award-winning singer, having won the TV Music Competition “The Launch”. Since then one of her songs has became a Top 40 hit, and she is about to release her debut album, to release on July 9th.
We had the absolute honor of interview Olivia on all things music, upbringing, and music goals
Q: Did you come from a musical family?
O: “I did! My dads always had such a big passion for music. He took me to my first concert, taught me my first chords on the guitar and has always been in my corner. Going to concerts as a family is one of my favorite memories from childhood.”
Q: Who are your main inspirations for the sound of your music?
O: “In my earlier teen years I loved folk. Ingrid Michaelson, Daughter, The Paper kites etc. As I mature I gravitate towards a more mainstream electro- pop sound. I’ve always loved how pop music makes me feel- energized and refreshed, so with this new project that’s exactly what I’ve been inspired by.”
Q: You have made so many incredible songs already, but which has been your favorite, and why?
O: “I always tend to hold the acoustic ballads of mine a little extra close to my heart. I think it’s because these songs are very vulnerable and reflective of my past encounters. Bedsheets is my current fav song, but there’s a song on this upcoming album that is my new favorite so i can’t wait for you to hear!”
Q: What goals do you have for the future of your music career? Maybe a world tour?
O: “Being able to travel (a passion of mine) and play shows all around the world is a large goal/dream of mine. Combining those two passions seems magical!”
Q: Tell us about your new single “SAD TO SEE YOU HAPPY”?
O: “STSYH came together one afternoon with Shaun Frank, AJ Healey & Jenson Vaughan. We loved the idea of writing a song based off of an oxymoron. “Loving someone to death, or being sad to see someone happy”. This concept inspired our song title and hook! When writing STSYH we were trying to capture the emotional roller coaster triggered by heartbreak. I feel the lyrics in this song are very relatable and allow for a playful take on an intense situation!”
Q: What has been your favorite moment of your career so far?
O: “It’s so hard to pinpoint one favorite moment. I think right now is the most exciting time in my career so far. I’m beyond excited about the music I’m creating, have an amazing team and so much support from the people around me! I’m really looking forward to seeing where the next year of my career takes me :)”
Q: You are an award-show-winning singer with millions of streams. Have you realized your success yet, or has it not hit you?
O: “Thank you! I’m very grateful for my musical journey so far. I’ve met so many amazing people and have an incredible team. I do feel blessed with the success thus far in my career, but there is still a long way to go on this journey and I’m excited to experience it as it unfolds!”
Q: Do you think that Canada has a unique music world?
O: “Growing up in Winnipeg, MB the winters are SO cold. I think because of this, we’re forced to stay inside and be creative (lol)! In retrospect, I’m grateful for those cold winters and my warm basement where I wrote so many of my first songs!”
Q: Where can we follow your amazing journey?
O: “All of my socials are @olivialunny ! thx so much for chatting! :)”
