Actress and Singer CARYS Talks Comfort Zone, Taylor Swift, And Netflix’s “Working Moms”

Yes, the news we have all been waiting for!

Season 6 of Workin’ Moms has just been announced and we couldn’t be more excited! If you haven’t binged this series then the show tells the story of women trying to balance work life and being a mum. It shows the real-life struggles women face after having a baby in the truest to life comedic way.

With season 6 now in the works I caught up with one of the stars of the show, actress and singer/songwriter Aviva Mongillo (Carys).

Aviva plays Juniper, Frankie’s young love interest but soon ends up leans on Frankie and they instead become close friends. Juniper is a quirky and witty character so interesting to watch. We loved finding out all about ‘that haircut’ and what it was like to work with such a great cast on the show.

Q: You have had an amazing both acting and singing career so far. Which do you prefer?

C: This might sound like a cop-out but I don’t have a preference. I love both equally for different reasons. I love acting because I get to put myself in other people’s stories and I love music because I get to tell my story.

Q: If you weren’t a singer or actress what career path would you have taken?

C: “I don’t know if I could do anything outside of the arts. I would probably be a visual artist, a poet or an interior designer!!

Q: I’m a huge fan of ‘Workin’ Moms, what was it like being on set with such an incredible cast?

C:I’m so happy you love that show! Me too. I love being on their set. I’m usually only there for a few days each year but I’m always sad when it’s over because it’s such good energy to be surrounded by. I’m super grateful I get to keep coming back!!

Q: How did it feel when you found out you got the part of ‘Juniper’?

A little nervous because it was a bit out of my comfort zone! But I loved Juniper the moment I got my audition sides, I felt like I really clicked with the character. When I got the call that I booked the role, it was so exciting!

Q: I have to ask was the lob-sided haircut real or a wig?

C:Oh, it was a wig. And a fantastic wig because people always ask me this!

Q: What advice would you give to women wanting to get into the industry?

C: Follow your heart and trust yourself before anyone else! I think that what is most important is that you resonate with what you’re creating.

Q: What is the meaning behind your music name “CARYS”?

C: The name CARYS is derived from the Welsh word “Caru”, which means love. I thought it was a dope name and the fact that its meaning is so universal is beautiful to me. I make music from and because of love so it just felt right.

Q: Who would be your dream collaboration with for your music and why?

C:I grew up on Taylor Swift, she is the reason I started writing songs!! It would just be a surreal experience to be able to make music with her. I look up to her a lot.

Q: If you could pass one message onto your fans, what would it be?

C: “My fans are so supportive, so sweet and so funny. I am blessed to have them on my team, they’re the reason I’ve gotten as far as I have. I just want them to know how appreciated and loved they are and how much it means to me to be able to make music that they can relate to.

Q: What’s next for you?

C: “I am deep in the creative process right now writing the best songs I have ever written! It takes everything inside of me not to leak all my demos. I am so excited to share them as soon as possible. I’m hoping to just keep releasing music and playing dress-up on set. You know, the usual.
