Q: When did you realise that you wanted to become a singer?
A: “I’ve been singing since I was a kid for sure, and always had little melodies going on in my head. When I learned piano and guitar that helped get them out and I eventually just started writing lyrics to them!”
Q: Do you think that moving to Nashville has changed your music style?
A: “Moving to Nashville in 2015 and being surrounded by incredible writers and musicians has definitely pushed me to be better. There’s always room to grow and learn from others, and Nashville is the perfect place to be to do that for musicians and songwriters. I also never thought I’d write country songs but I have written a few that I love.”
Q: Who would you say is your biggest music inspiration?
A: “My biggest music inspiration is Chey Rose. She is my roommate, best friend, and another pop artist/writer in Nashville who is the hardest working person I’ve met in Nashville. Her songs give me chills and she pushes herself every day to be better and figure out who she is as an artist. I’m also so inspired by JP Saxe, Julia Michaels, Sasha Sloan, and Emily Weisband’s writing styles.”
Q: Where do you see your music career in 5 years?
A: “I hope that live shows will be safe at that point, and I see myself playing some shows around Nashville and just continuing to write for other people and myself. I’d also love to get into writing for sync.”
Q: Did you grow up in a musical family?
A: “Not necessarily, my mom made us take piano lessons for a few years and she would play music around the house during the holidays and in the car, and it was mostly Christian music. I’d always love how we got to listen to hip-hop/ rap/ top 40 when my dad drove us though. That was about the extent of it and I picked up playing guitar at 14.”
Q: Tell us about your single “Not About Us”.
A: “My single “Not About Us” is very different from most of the music I write, but it is one of those songs that I felt I needed to say, because it’s one of my only uptempo happy songs I’ve written that still feels like me. It describes how I felt in my relationship at the time and the way I feel about him is not dramatic, even though I know I can be at times. I also liked how the verses helped tell the details of our love story and how we just kind of fell into it when I was least expecting it. I had actually gotten dumped 3 days prior to meeting him which is funny.”
Q: What is your favorite song of yours?
A: “My favorite song is called “Why Do I Do That” and it is actually next to be released! I’m hoping early to mid December, and it is an introspective self-realization song about my unhealthy habits and wondering why i do that/ keep those habits.”
Q: What celebrity would make you faint if you met them?
A: “Probably Harry Styles and that’s self explanatory lol.”
Q: Do you feel like the pandemic has helped you songwriting wise?
A: “It has definitely given me more time to write and be alone with myself, so I would say yes. It’s been nice getting to know myself a bit more and spending more time with family in quarantine, I can always find inspiration for songs when I’m around my family.”
Q: Where can we listen to your music?
A: “My music is out anywhere you listen to music on! Under “Amy Asher”.”
