Cayley Spivey is a ginger-gift to the world! Formerly a member of the band As Small Talks, the rock-pop singer has journeyed into a solo career, and has received over 1 Million streams on her personal music.
We had the honor of talking with Cayley on all things music inspiration, her main message to her fans, and an insight into her newest single:
Q: What made you decide to pursue a career in entertainment?
C: “I have always been creative, curious and loved people. Entertainment is the best way to touch souls and make use of my imagination.”
Q: How would you describe your music style?
C: “When I write I consider each song a story, and the music the accompanying feeling. Any story needs a tone, and my focus always seems to be in pulling out an emotional reaction from my listener. Most of my songs start with some significant meaning or a moment, and some time with my acoustic guitar.”
Q: Tell us about your newest single “Cross The Line”.
C: “Writing “Cross The Line” was liberating for me as well as creating and co-directing the music video for it. It was my first time using terms that hinted and displayed the wlw aspect of the music, and the video was my first time opening up about my queer hopeless romantic side visually.”
Q: If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be and why?
C: “If I could change one thing about the music industry, I would remove the gate keeping aspects of it and encourage more risks. I’d like to see more freedom in expression and less marketing tactics.”
Q: What musician do you admire most and why?
C: “Right now I am very into Julia Wolf, I like her confidence and lyricism. Role Model is also a favorite of mine, but hands down Kevin Abstract might be one of my favorite artists as a person and creator. I watch his interviews a lot and I think his perspective is special. He was also one of the first queer artists I knew of.”
Q: What is one message that you would like to give for your fans?
C: “Do what you want with your life, don’t let anything pull you away from your passion. You define success, happiness, your perspective, everything. You define it all yourself and your life is no different. I believe in you and I’m proud of you.”
Q: What has been the best moment of your career so far?
C: “My favorite career moment was probably releasing “SFU”, it was just a very special turning point song for me and I was so happy to come out as a queer solo artist and reveal my intentions in music!’
Q: Where can we follow your amazing journey?
C: “I am most active on instagram @cayleyspivey, but you can follow and find everything you need at www.cayleyspivey.com/“
