This rising teen is one of our favorites to ever be on the screen!
Braxton Alexander has been in some of our favorite movies and tv shows, including HBO’s “Doom Patrol”, FOX’s The Passage” and CBS’s “MacGyver”.
We had the absolute honor of interviewing Braxton on all things auditioning, working with co stars, and his acting career so far:
Q: When did you get your start in acting? What peaked your interest?
B: “My parents never really set out for me to be an actor. But they enrolled me in an acting class when I was 6 years old. They thought it would help me gain confidence while speaking to others and in front of a crowd. They also thought it would help me learn the ability to think quickly on my feet when needed. After about 18 months of training, I realized that I loved to help tell the stories of others, so I asked to start auditioning for roles.”
Q: What is it like being a young actor in the film/tv industry?
B: “Well, it’s absolutely amazing and a gift to be my age and have found something that I 100% will be doing for the rest of my life. I love what I do and honestly can not imagine not doing it. The rush I feel when I get an audition request and start diving into the character and sides. Meeting all of the different people along the process of booking a role, then working with all of the amazing and talented actors, crew members on-set etc. It’s really hard for me to think of something that I love more than being on-set working! It’s really the best place on earth! With that being said, being in this industry also comes with a tremendous amount of disappointment. Auditioning for 5,10,20 etc auditions without a word.
The inability to keep plans & schedule because when the phone rings, everything else takes a back seat because you never know when that call will come again. Missed events/Family & Friend gatherings because you are traveling or studying sides/auditioning so that you can work etc etc. This business not only takes an enormous amount of discipline and commitment, but I think it is safe to say that it takes a huge amount of sacrifice. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. With the few negatives, there are so many more overwhelming positives. If I have learned anything to this point, I have learned that I love all that this industry offers. The Good and the Not-so-good. I do not want to be an actor, I need to be.”
Q: Who are your acting inspirations? Why?
B: “Is it even possible to narrow a list like this down? The list is long and for so many different reasons. But If I had to name one right off the top of my head: Leonardo DiCaprio. Not just because he is one of the most talented and respected actors in the business but I am inspired by how he has been able to keep his dedication and passion for the craft for so many years, without waver. Starting out as a young child actor.
Booking smaller type Co-Star/Supporting roles to gain experience and with every role, the size of the roles and production just kept getting larger over the years. Through his continued commitment and quality work (no matter the size of the role) he increasingly gained the respect of his colleagues and then found himself not only working with the largest, most respected names in the business but soon being one the most respected and well versed actors in the business. Well, it’s a journey that could inspire anyone!“
Q: What is your favorite medium to work in? TV? Film? Theater?
B: “Oh wow! That’s a bit of a tough question to answer for me. To this point, I believe I would say “Film.” Being part of a film gives the actors a little more ability and time to really dive into a character & the dialogue etc because the pace of a film is oftentimes slower than a TV Series. But, that answer might change should a Series Regular role on a TV Series come my way. To this point in my career, I have yet to land a Series Regular role. But I certainly would love the opportunity. The thought of being part of a cast/crew on an ongoing basis, day after day as a Series Regular, really excites me! Creating a character and seeing how that character develops over time and working with the same group of actors over time and having the time to build relationships over the time it takes to shoot a TV Series (hopefully for more than one season) just sounds amazing to me and I can’t wait to have that kind of opportunity.”
Q: What upcoming projects are you working on? What are you most excited about?
B: “I actually have a feature film on the books to start filming in a couple of months. It’s a film style that I have yet to have the opportunity to do, so definitely looking forward to that! In addition, largely due to the hard work of my Amazing Agents (A3 Artists Agency (LA/NY) & Alexander White Agency (Atlanta) & Manager (Artistic Endeavors), I have had a great amount of recent auditions/Callbacks, etc, So Extremely hopeful for more opportunities to come.”
