Here is a major throwback to our one and only December 2020 cover star, Finn Matthews. A Billboard recognized artist, the young performer has already hit 1 million streams on his music. And this is just the beginning.
If you haven’t looked into your Christmas 2020 print issue, here is the full interview with Finn!:
Q: Which of your songs would you say represents your music style the best?
F: “I wouldn’t say that any one song represents my style as its always
changing and evolving as I experience new things. You’ll hear in my
music, as especially as I release more music, that I pull from many
different places for inspiration. Some of my songs are completely
acoustic, and some very modern and produced. I always want to be able
to do whatever I feel in the moment when creating. That being said,
some of my favorite songs that I’ve released so far are “Into the
Open”, “Low Key”, and “IDK”. :)”
Q: Where do you see your career in 5 years? Do you have any goals?
F: “In 5 years I want to be a massive artist who defines music trends and
creates music that is universally enjoyed. I want to be touring the
world sharing beautiful experiences with other people. That is the
best part about making music. Even though I love being in the studio
and thats where I spend most of my time at the moment, sharing the
music I make with others is by far the most rewarding thing. Getting
to see how it connects with them emotionally is so beautiful and makes
me feel like I can connect to that person through that shared
experience.”
Q: Who is your biggest music inspiration?
F: “I think it would be unfair to only say one, but John Mayer is a huge
inspiration for me, maybe one of the biggest. Vocally, I have taken
some influenced from Stevie Wonder. Production wise, lots of pop music
and rap music, artists like Jon Bellion, Travis Scott, and Miguel.
Again, there are so many that I haven’t named but those are some that
came to mind :))”
Q: If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life,
what would it be?
F: “Somebody Else by The 1975. That song is just so good.”
Q: What advice would you give to young artists, such as yourself, who
want to make it in this industry?
F: “As a young artist who is trying to make it, my advice is to focus on
the craft as much as you can. So much of who I am as a person and my
identity comes from music. I always want to be the best I can be at
everything music related. I know that skill alone won’t make me
successful but knowing that I am good at what I do gives me an amazing
confidence in myself and my abilities that has helped me so much in
all areas of my life.”
Q: Why do you think it’s important to bring attention to current world
topics. such as Black Lives Matter?
F: “It’s important to have cultural awareness and to feel what other
people are feeling at the moment because that makes you a part of
something thats so much bigger than just you. To be a part of a
movement for equality, for acceptance and love against hate is such a
beautiful thing. We’re all human, we all just want to be loved and
accepted. We can’t focus on our differences. The more we focus on
coming together as people who all want the same thing, the less hate
we will see in the world.”
Q: Can you give us any sneak peeks/updates on your upcoming projects?
F: “I’m writing and producing my debut album as we speak and I hope to
release it this year. I’d love to be able to go on tour soon but
I’m not sure when that will happen due to the pandemic. I got a few
more singles coming before the album drops so stay tuned for those!!”
Q: Where can we listen to your music?
F: “You can follow me on all my socials for updates @finnmatthews and you
can find my music everywhere theres music, just search Finn Matthews
