A triple threat! Singer, songwriter, and dancer Olivia King is leaving her footprint on many social platforms with her intertwined sound of Pop and Soul.
After her run on The Voice, Olivia King has now over 3M streams for her music. Olivia’s music has been placed in major Campaigns such as “ Be Your Biggest Fan” campaign for Caleb McLaughlin from the Award-Winning Netflix Series, “ Stranger Things.”
New Scene recently caught up with the 20 Something singer, where we talked music, social media consistency, and what’s next!
Q. You just released your single 20 Something about two months ago; it played out throughout the whole song these expectations that society has put upon people in their twenties. In the chorus you say “I’m just Twenty something, still don’t know nothing”, but What is something that now you do know & have taken away while in your 20’s?
A. “I would say you learn A LOT in your twenties while also still leaving a lot of room to keep growing. The biggest takeaway from my twenties is to stop putting pressure on my age and just work as hard as I can. We are always our own worst critic but in my twenties I learned it’s okay to lay off yourself a bit!”
Q. Olivia, You are very consistent when it comes to social media! Do you think that social media is what makes or breaks an artist when it comes to being independent?
A. “I would say social media is HUGE when it comes to being an indie artist. After all, where are you going to find your fans if you aren’t finding them on social media in 2021? It’s the easiest way to grow a loyal fanbase quickly.”
Q. How do you manage to keep up with the latest social media trends and remain consistent?
A. “I live by being consistent. It’s the biggest piece of advice I will ever give any other artist. I am constantly studying other artists and influencers on social media and seeing how I can replicate their content while giving it a twist that my followers would enjoy :)”
Q. While we’re still on the topic of social media, Tik Tok is the spot right now for creatives and you have definitely made your mark. What are some of your favorite tik tok trends you’ve done?
A. “The savage dance that Cassidy Condie came up with was GENIUS and is to date my favorite trend on tiktok! She is so talented!!”
Q. Let’s take it back a few years. Before doing music full time you were a college student. What aspects do you take from college that you still apply today to your career or just everyday life? Do you ever miss that “college life”?
A. “Lol I actually hated college. I never went to parties. I always stayed back in my dorm and wrote music. One of the few times I went out, I met my now fiance so I guess I should have gone out more! Ha! I definitely don’t think college is for everyone especially if you have an entrepreneurial mindset. I met some amazing people there that will be lifelong friends and really got to come out of my shell there but I don’t believe in society making everyone feel like they have to go to college to be successful.”
Q. If you had to make the Best Songs of 2021 Mashup right now, just a few months in, what songs would it consist of ?
A. “Oh, that’s a tough one! Probably Leave the Door Open, Driver’s License, Up, and Girl Like Me. Very Eclectic lol!”
Q. Recently you began the Song Association Instagram Live series and it seems that it will feature other upcoming singers, can you tell us how that came about and what your goal is for this new series?
A. “I started live streaming every day on my Instagram back in November and it has really helped me connect on a deeper level with my fans and supporters. I have so much fun on there and it’s almost become addicting. I thought it would be cool to have guests on my live stream so I started thinking of games I could play with other artists that would be fun and light hearted and the Song Association Game came to mind. The goal for this game is for us to be able to tap into each other’s audiences and for me to connect with other similar artists around the world!”
Q. Olivia, you are currently engaged, but for songs like Wasted Time speaking on pretty much failed love, how do you manage to find inspiration for failed love songs?
A. “December 11, 2021 will be the big day! I can always tap into my feelings from past relationships. I’m definitely a deep feeler but I also don’t dwell on things. Music allows me to release those feelings that maybe I should have dwelled on a little longer. Most people don’t just get over a relationship over night. But with me, I do. If it’s done, it’s done. So it’s nice to have music to dissect my feelings a bit.”
Q. What can we expect next from Olivia King?!
A. A lot of music! I have 3 covers dropping starting May 7 all 2 weeks apart that are all throwback songs from the late 90’s/Early 2000’s. I’m so excited for everyone to hear them 🙂
